Nothing says Happy Birthday like summoning the spirits of your dead relatives.

Alex is a bruja, the most powerful witch in a generation...and she hates magic. At her Deathday celebration, Alex performs a spell to rid herself of her power. But it backfires. Her whole family vanishes into thin air, leaving her alone with Nova, a brujo boy she can't trust. A boy whose intentions are as dark as the strange marks on his skin.

The only way to get her family back is to travel with Nova to Los Lagos, a land in-between, as dark as Limbo and as strange as Wonderland...

Great cover, looks kinda spooky and voodoo-ish, hopefully it will be good!

This was a fun read, took me to places that were entertaining, took me away to a fantasy underworld, the adventures, the creatures and the characters.
Alex Moritz is a bruja, translation from Spanish = witch.
Her family is an old powerful magical family and Alex’s family are still waiting for her powers to appear, little do they know that, they already have, but she tries to suppress them and one day she conjures a snake to come out of a mouth of a bully at school.

Alex’s mother is waiting to host her deathday
Party where her relatives living and dead bless her and her powers, but of course after the snake incident, she cannot hide anymore.
The day of the party arrives, but sometimes annoying / typical teenager, i know it all, i can do no wrong interferes with the ceremony causing things to go majorly tits up……

Alex is annoying at times and there are many references where the author states something and then reaffirms it a minute later or contradicts the aforementioned paragraph, i did find myself re reading some passages again.
The story once she ventures out in Los Lagos ( their version of the underworld) to retrieve what has been stolen, is quite predictable, but that being said, it was imaginative and quite readable.
This is has a lovely South American feel to it and i liked that alot, gave it flavour and stopped it being a run of the mill witchy book.
There are love interests in here, some predictable and others not so.
There is no triangle or insta love crap and i liked it for that.
This story not only tells you about mystery and magic, but of family and how they are important to self growth and unconditional love.

I saw this on the Goodreads page and thought it might be nice for you guys to watch the book trailer from the author’s YouTube channel 🙂 … see how good I am to you!!:P

Everything for me gets wrapped up, the ending does make you think that there can be other books and I believe there are, will I read them? Not sure, I feel sated with the end if this one. I will like to think that I will read this author again.

Have a fantastic booktastic day and I hope to see you here again soon!
